Genevieve Morel: THE UNSUBMERSIBLE FANTASM

Genevieve Morel is a practicing psychoanalyst in Paris and Lille. Her numerous books include Sexual Ambiguities, (Karnac, 2011), and the soon-to-be-translated La Loi de ma Mere: Essai sur le Sinthome Sexuel (the Law of the Mother: Essay on the Sexual Sinthome) (Broche, 2000), And recently with Darian Leader, Clinique de Suicide, 2012. She is the President of Savoir et Clinique (Knowledge and Clinic) an association for the permanent formation of the psychoanalyst and regularly publishes a journal by the same name. She has advanced degrees in philosophy, mathematics and psychoanalysis and is a graduate of the Ecole Normale Superieure.

Paper abstract: Lacan’s fantasm is not “fantasy” – it concerns much more the fact that you keep doing the same thing…despite your hopes for change. What does psychoanalysis say about this? What does this have to do with the aims of treatment?
